What a miserable program! going to restart this computer - the Avast browser windows STILL came up despite trying to eliminate it via task manager while I typed this. I'm also going to try a system restore next.

I think the problem is not with Avast, but rather with FF, as I AM having multiples of update and download problems. I KNOW I've communicated with them multiple times from my office & got zero replies from support. Not heard of Firefox add-ons conflicting with an AV, but then stranger things have happened in the past, but if you didnt have Firefox running or even running in Firefox Safe Mode then the addons wouldnt be loaded to conflict. I can't even ask a Q on the Avast website - because it won't accept any of the passwords I have listed here at home. I just hope it doesn't do the same thing.

Lucky(?) for me - I am exec dir of a non-profit & just bought Norton via TechSoup very cheap, so will dispose of Avast asap & install Norton.
